Vol. 266 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meeting with Prisoners.

3.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is prepared to meet the prisoners' union.

There is no prisoners' union.

I may have used the wrong phrase but there is a prisoners' association which purports to represent prisoners. I understand that they would seek a meeting with the Minister to discuss some grievances. Whatever their title may be, would the Minister agree to meet a small deputation?

I think the Minister is not prepared to give any recognition to a small group of prisoners who, acting in concert in intimidating other prisoners, are attempting to disrupt the prison system.
