Vol. 266 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sweep Ticket Sellers' Bonuses.

10.

asked the Minister for Justice if he proposes to increase sellers' bonuses on winning sweep tickets.

This is not my function. If the organisers of the Sweepstakes consider that an increase in sellers' prizes would be likely to lead to an increase in net returns for the hospitals it is open to them to put such a proposal to me for sanction and, as no doubt the Deputy is aware, there has been a newspaper report that they propose to do that.

Can the Minister say if there is any truth in the newspaper report?

I have no information to that effect. No approach has been received at this stage. This is something which should properly come from the Sweepstake authorities. It is not a matter proper for ministerial initiative.

I saw the report and I thought I would ask the question.

Fair enough.
