Vol. 267 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Estates.

15.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to divide the Reilly estate, Branda, Crossmolina, County Mayo.

(Cavan): Possession of this property passed to the Land Commission only in April last. As yet I am unable to say when the lands will be divided.

16.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission has acquired the Neary estate at Carrowcrum, Bonniconlon, County Mayo; and, if so, when it will be divided.

(Cavan): Proceedings are in progress for the compulsory acquisition of the property referred to and the question of price now remains to be settled. Following an objection by the owner the buildings and about two acres were excluded from the proceedings.

Is the Minister aware that this is a farm in respect of which the Land Commission refused purchasing permission to four smallholders in the area and that for a number of years the owner has not heard from the Land Commission in regard to the question of price?

(Cavan): As the Deputy will have gathered from my reply, the question of price remains to be settled. If negotiations do not lead to agreement, the matter can be settled in the ordinary way by the appeals tribunal.

Can the Minister say when the Land Commission approached the owner on the question of price, in other words, when he was first given an indication as to what the Land Commission were willing to pay?

(Cavan): I am not sure that I have that information but I can tell the Deputy that compulsory acquisition proceedings were initiated on the 17th February, 1970. There was an objection to that and following the objection, the acquisition was disallowed in respect of the lands but allowed in respect of two dwelling houses and accommodation plots which were turbary plots. I have not got the exact details of the negotiations concerning price.

17.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to divide the Herbert estate, Ballinlabaun, Crossmolina, County Mayo.

(Cavan): I understand the aim is to include these lands in the current year's allocation programme.

18.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to divide the Duggan estate at Shanclough, Curroy, Ballina, County Mayo.

19.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to divide the Rotchford lands at Shanclough, Curroy, Ballina, County Mayo.

(Cavan): With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 18 and 19 together.

As possession of the properties referred to has not yet passed to the Land Commission it is not possible to say when the lands will be available for allotment.

In each case proceedings for compulsory acquisition have reached the stage where the question of price remains to be settled.
