Vol. 267 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aerial Photography.

28.

asked the Minister for Lands if his Department is engaged in any form of aerial photography; and, if so, for what purpose.

(Cavan): A private firm is at present engaged on an aerial photographic survey of woodland areas on behalf of the Forest and Wildlife Service of my Department.

Can the Minister say how long this survey is likely to take and when may we expect some results from it?

(Cavan): In order to ascertain the total wooded area of this country the Forestry and Wildlife Service first completed a ground survey of all private woodlands of over 100 acres in extent. To complete the survey of private woodlands information is now being complied on areas of less than 100 acres with the aid of aerial photography. I cannot tell the Deputy when exactly it is expected to be completed but if he would like to communicate with me I will let him have that information.
