asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the estimated cost of improving the Maghera television transmitter, County Clare, in order to provide sufficient signal strength during the summer months.

Reception from this transmitter is subject to interference at certain times, particularly during the summer, from foreign television stations. RTE say that, in order to eliminate this intermittent interference, it would be necessary to provide a new transmitter which would operate in a different band at a cost of about £100,000. Proposals from RTE for the financing of a substantial programme for the improvement of reception are at present under consideration and are referred to in my reply to the next question.
