Vol. 267 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Pier.

4.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if, while there is still time, he will revert to the original decision to construct the new pier on the site of the old stone pier, Moville, County Donegal rather than construct it on the site of the derelict wooden wharf, as more recently decided.

No new circumstances have arisen which would warrant reversion to the original proposal.

I did not suggest that new circumstances would have to arise. What I suggested was that the circumstances as they were and as they were examined, and the position determined, should be considered again as being the more suitable proposal—not new circumstances but old ones.

The Deputy seems to be in a minority as far as this question is concerned because everybody including the fishermen are not in favour of this suggested scheme.

I suggest that the fishermen and others interested in that development——

The Chair would prefer if we did not have a statement on this question.

I am asking the Parliamentary Secretary if he is aware that all of the fishermen are by no means in favour of this and that the manner in which they are said to be in favour of it is putting to them: "Take this or get nothing."

That is not so. The Deputy is the only one to think that.

Question No. 5.

It is not a question of my being the only one. I am asking the Parliamentary Secretary to have a further look at this rather than to take the proposal already there as gospel.

The revised scheme has been formulated and it is proposed to carry that out. It is not proposed to revert to the scheme being advocated by the Deputy.

What did Deputy Blaney do about it when he was over here?

Look at the record.

We must have order.
