Vol. 267 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Workers Representation on State Boards.

8.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is yet in a position to announce the Government's arrangements to implement the proposals to provide for the representation of workers on State boards.

As I indicated in my Estimate speech on 15th May, 1973, I propose to establish within my Department a section solely concerned with the question of worker participation. This section will be concerned with the preparation of the legislation necessary to give effect to the Government's commitments regarding worker participation.

Has the section been established yet?

No, but the preparatory work is in progress.

Can we have any idea of when the section will be established so that we may make further inquiries at that time?

Preparations are in process to have the section established. The preparatory work is already under way and the Government made it clear at the time of the recent election, and I made it clear in my Estimate speech, that we will proceed with legislation in this area as rapidly as possible.

Will the sanction of the Minister for Finance be required in setting up the section or has the Minister procured any such sanction?

The Deputy will be aware that Ministries exist and that for sections to be set up sanction such as that mentioned by him is necessary.
