The cost per head of the population on current health expenditure, including expenditure on health board and voluntary hospital and home services, is estimated at £35.23 in respect of 1972/73 and £39.92 in respect of 1973/74; corresponding capital figures are £2.23 and £3.06.
The revenue cost for 1973/74 will require to be adjusted, e.g. to take account of payment of allowances to nurses, and of the additional provision made in the budget for increases in disablement allowances, etc.

asked the Minister for Health the percentage of GNP devoted to health services for 1972-73 and 1973-74.
Public expenditure on health services, including that on some services of a welfare character provided by health boards, amounted to 5 per cent of GNP for 1972-1973 and the estimated figure for 1973-1974 is 5.1 per cent.
