Vol. 267 No. 12

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

241.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in commencing work on the Aherla/Kilcrea group water scheme, County Cork.

I understand that the group have not, as yet, obtained a tender for the carrying out of the work. When this is received in my Department, firm costings will be determined and the appropriate grants will be allocated so that work may commence.

242.

asked the Minister for Local Government if contracts have been placed for the carrying out of the mid-Kerry regional water scheme; and, if so, when work can be expected to start.

A contract has not yet been placed for this work. Tenders were received in my Department on 13th July, 1973, and are at present being examined.

243.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the application of representatives of Killahara group water scheme, Thurles, County Tipperary; and if the group water inspector will call to the area with a view to initiating the scheme without further delay.

I have arranged that the Department's group inspector for the area will discuss this scheme with the promoter in the very near future.

244.

asked the Minister for Local Government when sanitation will be provided for the Old Streatroe cottages, Killorglin, County Kerry.

I understand that work on a scheme to provide sanitation at the cottages referred to will commence in the near future.

245.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the proposed sewerage scheme for Broadford, County Clare.

Clare County Council are formulating revised proposals for a sewerage scheme for the area which will take into account development there and provide for modern treatment for the effluent.

246.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he proposes to increase the water and sewerage grant; and if he will state when the last increase was made in this grant.

A comprehensive review of improvements grants including individual water and sewerage installations is being undertaken in my Department and when it is completed, I will consider what changes, if any, are necessary.

The maximum grant for group water installation was increased from £60 to £100 a house from 1st February, 1972; the grants for individual water and sewerage installations were last increased under the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1958.
