Vol. 268 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Estate.

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is intended to take Springhill Park, Blackrock, County Dublin into the charge of the local authority.

This is a matter for the local authority concerned.

I did not hear the reply to my question. I think I am entitled to hear it.

The Chair would like to facilitate Deputies. At the same time, the Chair would like Question Time to proceed in an orderly fashion.

The answer is that this is a matter for the local authority concerned.

I am sure Deputy Desmond understands the situation here and is as concerned as I am about the fact that estates are not being taken in charge. Would the Minister conduct a local public inquiry into this very serious problem in my constituency and, indeed, in the whole city and County of Dublin area?

No, because local authorities have members elected to those authorities for the purpose of doing a job and I propose to allow them to do that job.

Is it not clear that in a number of instances, again Deputy Desmond will confirm this, housing estates have not been taken in charge for the last number of years? Surely it is a matter of urgency to set up this local public inquiry which I have called for? Deputy Desmond is remaining silent.

I am making representations.
