Vol. 268 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Consumer Affairs Co-ordination.

2.

asked the Taoiseach if, in view of the fact that many Departments are engaged in consumer affairs, he will consider the establishment of a Ministry or a Parliamentary Secretaryship to co-ordinate such matters.

Would the Taoiseach not think that, in view of the appalling increases which were announced in the past week, he should now reconsider the decision which he has now announced?

No. This says nothing about increases. It is about consumer affairs and the answer is "no".

While the increases which were announced last week may not be stated in the question, surely one of the prime consumer affairs is the cost of living. Should not the Taoiseach now consider the appointment of a Parliamentary Secretary to co-ordinate such activities in view of the failure of the Minister for Industry and Commerce in this matter?

There has been no suggestion from any quarter that there is a lack of co-ordination.
