Vol. 268 No. 6

Written Answers. - Compensation Income Relief.

220.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider granting relief on income accruing from moneys received as compensation for injuries suffered by persons.

The incidence of taxation on the income from the investment of compensation awards is normally taken into account by the legal advisers of the parties concerned. Any relief from tax on such income would be likely to be taken into account and in that event the relief would accrue to the benefit of the compensating party and not to the benefit of the injured party.
