Vol. 268 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - St. Stephen's Green (Dublin) Floodlighting.

128.

asked the Minister for Finance the outcome of the survey regarding the possibility of floodlighting the trees surrounding St. Stephen's Green, Dublin.

Mr. Kenny

A scientific examination of the trees in St. Stephen's Green Park has shown that many of the perimeter trees may have to be replaced in the near future. Pending a decision on a replanting programme the question of floodlighting is being deferred.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary indicate how long he will have to wait for a decision on this matter?

Mr. Kenny

It depends upon how we can get rid of the perimeter trees. If they are gone pretty far it will be sooner rather than later. When we get rid of the trees we can have the floodlighting.

Would it be possible to plant new trees on the perimeter now between the existing ones so that they can be at some stage of development before the old ones are removed.

Mr. Kenny

That might interfere with the formation of the trees.

Perhaps the Parliamentary Secretary will have another look at this matter.

Mr. Kenny

I certainly will.
