Vol. 268 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fertiliser Blending.

137.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if his Department favour a prescription-type fertiliser blending; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The idea of pre-scription-type fertiliser blending is theoretically sound but could present practical difficulties for manufacturers or blenders because of the likely demand for a very wide selection of blends to cater for the nutrient status of different fields and the requirements of different crops.

Farmers are, of course, free to seek prescription fertilisers and it may be necessary to do so in special cases. In general, however, fertiliser requirements can be adequately met by the range of compound fertilisers at present available on the market.
