Vol. 268 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Animal Trade Control.

162.

asked the Minister for Lands if he proposes to introduce legislation which would assist in the control of international trade in animals which are in danger of extinction.

163.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will indicate the Government's attitude at international conferences with regard to the international control of trade in animals which may become extinct as a result of such trade.

164.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will give an assurance that the Government will support at international level all efforts to protect species of fauna and flora which are endangered.

(Cavan): I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 162 to 164 together.

The question of controlling trade in endangered species is one of many items being considered in the context of pending wildlife legislation. Generally speaking, international efforts aimed at such control have our support, either at international conferences or otherwise.
