Vol. 268 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gun Licences.

8.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the problems created by the issue of gun licences at customs frontier posts; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An arrangement for the issue at customs posts of firearms certificates in respect of certain classes of firearms was introduced in 1965 to facilitate visitors coming to the State. Recent developments in relation to game preservation suggest that there is a need for new procedures for the issuing of firearm certificates for persons who are not resident in the State and revised procedures are at present being worked out by the Departments concerned.
