Vol. 268 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - East Donegal Hospital Services.

13.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that the services at Altnagelvin Hospital, Derry, are being provided unofficially for the population of east Donegal; and if his Department have any plans to consolidate this link officially for this area.

Under arrangements which have been in operation for some years, the services of Altnagelvin Hospital are provided in a limited way for Donegal patients. These services are given through arrangements made directly between the North-Western Health Board and the Altnagelvin Hospital authorities. My Department has been aware of and has approved these arrangements. In principle, an extension of these practical arrangements for the benefit of people in Donegal, would be acceptable to me, but detailed discussion on this would be a matter for the North-Western Health Board and the corresponding health board in Northern Ireland.

Have any such discussions taken place?

It was intended they would take place this week, but because of the illness of one of the principal men involved and the resignation of another, they have had to be postponed. It was thought they might have taken place this week.
