Vol. 268 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tralee Hospital.

30.

asked the Minister for Health the up-to-date position concerning the provision of a new County Hospital for Tralee, County Kerry.

Examination of proposals for this new hospital is nearing completion and I expect to be able to communicate with the health board in the matter in the near future.

Is the Minister aware that the present county hospital in Tralee is completely inadequate for the county's requirements and also that the corridors are too narrow to take stretchers on wheels and that doctors have great difficulty there? Is he aware that many extensions are being made to the present county hospital which I feel are a waste of money in view of the fact that a new hospital will be built in the near future? I urge the Minister to have the new county hospital made available to Tralee as quickly as possible.

The fact that the new hospital is being built, I suppose, bears out what the Deputy said in the initial part of his question.
