Vol. 268 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unmarried Mothers.

38.

asked the Minister for Health if he will arrange for an inquiry into the care of unmarried mothers and of their babies, irrespective of whether the babies are adopted.

I have no plans for any formal inquiry. However, in the development of the community services and, in particular, of services for deprived children, I have the problem very much in mind.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary propose to take any action on this matter apart from just keeping it in mind?

When I say that I have it very much in mind that means I am considering it at the moment.

When might the Parliamentary Secretary give us some information on this matter?

As soon as I can sensibly and reasonably do so.
