Vol. 268 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority House Purchase.

69.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the disadvantage suffered by local authority tenants who purchased their houses during the last few years vis-à-vis neighbours who purchase now under the new scheme; and if he will state the action he proposes to take to remove this anomaly.

I am aware that the sales scheme which I introduced is more advantageous to tenants than the scheme introduced by the previous Government. I have no power to alter the terms of legal transfers entered into by tenants who purchased their houses under the former scheme.

Will the Minister not agree that he is submitting to Fascist tactics to the detriment of the people who observed the law?

Will the Deputy explain what he is talking about?

The Minister was held up to ransom and gave in to people who got their way by disobeying the law of the land.

Is the Deputy suggesting that the rents and sale prices should revert back to the high rents and prices which his party introduced when they were in Government? They will not be so changed.

I am suggesting that the people who upheld the law of the land are entitled to consideration.

There can be no further discussion on this.

The Fianna Fáil party ensured it could not be done. They put through an Act of Parliament.

There is nothing to prevent the Minister from introducing a new Bill.

Question No. 70 postponed.
