Vol. 269 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Street Telephone Kiosks.

22.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state (a) the cost of a telephone booth, (b) the cost of its installation, (c) for how long the most common kind of booth has been in use by his Department, and (d) whether new designs will be examined.

I assume the Deputy's question refers to a street telephone kiosk. The average cost of supplying and installing the kiosk booth, that is, excluding the equipment, is estimated at £225. The cost of the booth itself cannot, I regret, be quoted separately as it would disclose a contract price. The present design with some modifications has been in use for 40 years. Other designs considered from time to time have not been adopted largely on technical or cost grounds. Any new design of kiosk submitted to my Department will, of course, be considered.
