Vol. 269 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Enniscorthy School.

25.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of reports (details supplied) that the superior of a school in Enniscorthy, County Wexford alleged that his Department reneged on a promise to pay a grant of £25,000 towards the cost of the new secondary school in the town; when such a promise was made; the reasons it was not fulfilled; and if the grant mentioned will now be paid.

The commitment entered into with the school authorities was for a total allocation of £50,000. Grant payments amounting to £31,000 have already been made. A further £15,000 was available by way of loan but this was not taken up at the time by the school authorities.

If the manager makes an application for loan at this stage, the application will be favourably considered.

The balance of £4,000 will arise for consideration for payment at the stage when a final account is submitted.
