Vol. 269 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Hospital Power Supplies.

3.

asked the Minister for Health if electricity supply has been cut off from any hospital in County Mayo in the course of the present dispute; and, if so, if he will give particulars of duration in each instance.

4.

asked the Minister for Health if he will give particulars of the emergency power supplies available in the various hospitals and institutions for care in County Mayo, with particular reference to hospitals providing services for acute and emergency cases.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 3 and 4 together. I have been informed by the Western Health Board that electrical power supply to Swinford and Belmullet Hospitals was cut off on ten or 12 occasions for periods varying from one to three hours during the present emergency. Exact details are not available as the hospitals did not record the actual stoppages. I understand that the Electricity Supply Board were unable to give the health board any assurance of continuity of supply.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report, details of emergency electricity generating plant available to hospitals in County Mayo.

I am informed that the health board are at present considering the question of emergency power supplies in their hospitals and the board expect to submit shortly to my Department proposals aimed at improving the situation.
