Vol. 269 No. 9

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Naval Service.

28.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware of reports that demands on the Naval Service may be expected to increase in the future; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Because of increasing danger of illegal fishing and a growing interest in the continental shelf as a potential source of energy, among other things, the demands on the Naval Service are likely to increase.

Would the Minister indicate whether there is any intention to increase the Naval Service in order to protect our fishery grounds? Has he any plans?

Indeed, yes. The question of building a second all-weather fishery protection vessel for the Naval Service is at present being considered.

Question No. 29 postponed.
