Vol. 269 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. - County Cork Reconstruction Grants.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will arrange the payment of a reconstruction grant to a person in Kanturk, County Cork (name supplied).

This grant was paid on 30th November, 1973.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will arrange the payment of a reconstruction grant to a person in County Cork (name supplied) as payment has been under consideration for some time.

A grant of £120 has been allocated by my Department in this case and arrangements are being made to issue the grant as soon as possible.

The applicant was allocated a special second reconstruction grant of £120 on 15th December, 1971. The work was certified by the Department's inspector as satisfactorily completed on 2nd November, 1972.

In the course of his final inspection the inspector was informed by the applicant that he had made application to Cork County Council for a reconstruction grant under the scheme of grants for physically disabled persons in respect of the same work.

The reconstruction grant of £120 is now being paid. When the county council are in a position to determine the claim to the disabled person's grant an adjustment will be made with Cork County Council, if necessary.

Would the Minister take these matters up with the council in future? I have already brought this to his notice.

This one?

I have dealt with it already. I have only been in the Department for eight months and there may be many more such cases that have been lying there for years.
