Vol. 269 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. - County Wicklow Compulsory Purchase Order.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government when a final decision will be made in connection with the application by Wicklow County Council for a compulsory purchase order at Ballymorris, Bray, County Wicklow.

I hope to give my decision on this order very shortly.

Can the Minister state when this application was made?

On the 30th December, 1972, Wicklow County Council submitted the order for confirmation. There were two objections and a local inquiry was held on the 8th March, 1973. The inspector's report was furnished on the 2nd July, 1973. The hold-up has been caused by reason of there being a planning appeal involved. This planning appeal is for private housing development on the same site and there is a legal wrangle in process as to which interest has priority.

Is the Minister aware that a primary school is envisaged for this site?

No. The application is for private housing development. Do not tell me that there is an application also for a primary school.

There is an application in respect of a new primary school and church and the Bray CoOperative Society propose building 20 houses there.

The Deputy is making a statement.

Since the Minister is not aware that a new primary school which is required urgently in Bray because of the expanding population there——

The Deputy is expanding greatly on the subject matter of the question.

Will the Minister in the light of the information I have given him, speed up the compulsory order?

I am not aware that there is any such proposal. My Department tell me that there was a planning appeal in respect of a private housing development on the same site but there is no reference to a church or school. I will give a decision on the matter before me within the next week or so.

I am calling Question No. 22.

The primary school is a matter of urgency——

Will the Deputy please resume his seat?
