Vol. 269 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. - Ground Limestone Standards.

42.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the efforts his Department is making to test (a) the quality, (b) the standard, and (c) the weight of lime delivered to farmers.

The quality and standard of ground limestone intended for agricultural purpose are statutorily prescribed. Officers of my Department continually take samples of ground limestone from consignments in transit for analysis by the State Laboratory to ascertain whether they meet the statutory requirements.

Officers of my Department and inspectors of Córas Iompair Éireann make random check weighings of consignments in transit. In general these checks indicate a tendency towards overweight rather than underweight in such consignments.
