Vol. 269 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. - Petrol Rationing.

67.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether petrol rationing, if introduced, will be based on horse-power ratings.

If petrol rationing is introduced it will be based on horse power rating in the case of private cars, on the cubic capacity of the engine in the case of motor cycles and in the case of commercial goods vehicles on the unladen weight of the vehicle. Coupon books will be issued to vehicle owners each containing a number of units. The number of units will increase generally in accordance with the horse power of the private car, the cubic capacity of the motor cycle and the unladen weight of the commercial vehicle. The quantity of petrol represented by a unit will be fixed if and when rationing is introduced and may be subject to variation from time to time depending on the supply position.
