Vol. 270 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pension Application.

12.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware that an application for an old age pension was submitted by a person (name supplied) in County Meath in March 1973, that after enquiries were made in the matter his Department indicated that no application had been received and that a further application was accordingly submitted in October 1973; and if he will take steps to have a decision on the application given as soon as possible.

There is no record in my Department of the receipt of a claim for an old age pension earlier than October, 1973 by the person concerned but there is evidence to suggest that a claim was, in fact, made and, accordingly, any award of pension in this case will be from 28th June, 1973, the date on which the claimant attained pensionable age.

Investigation of the claim received in October, 1973 disclosed that the claimant had let a house and a yard. As means derived from any property belonging to but not personally used by a claimant are calculated on the basis of the capital value of such property, the capital value of the property in this case has to be determined by the Commissioner of Valuation. I have asked to have this done without further delay. I hope that the claim can be decided very shortly.
