Vol. 270 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballingarry Mines.

137.

asked the Minister for Finance if steps are being taken to re-open the Ballingarry mines in view of the fact that there are large deposits of coal in the Slievardagh area, County Tipperary.

As the Deputy is aware, the Ballingarry mine was closed in July, 1973, after the receiver had failed to dispose of it as a going concern.

I understand from the receiver that he is at present dealing with inquiries from a number of parties who have indicated that they may be interested in recommencing mining operations at Ballingarry, if there is a reasonable assurance that the mine could be economically operated.
