Vol. 270 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - UN Arms Resolutions.

7.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs how Ireland voted on the UN resolution approving the use of arms by freedom movements.

I assume the Deputy is referring to Resolution 3070 passed by the General Assembly of the United Nations on 30th November, 1973.

The terms of this resolution required the General Assembly to re-affirm the legitimacy of armed struggle by peoples under colonial and foreign domination and called upon all states to offer material and any other assistance to such peoples.

Ireland abstained on the vote since we are not prepared to support guerilla activities.
