Vol. 270 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pigmeat Exports Compensation Payments.

226.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries when the EEC Commission will eliminate the payment of monetary compensation on pigmeat exports.

I have been pursuing this matter in the Council of Agricultural Ministers. Last month the EEC Commission undertook to see what could be done and has since prepared a draft proposal which is being examined at committee level prior to coming before the Council of Ministers for decision.

Could the Minister say when it is likely that it will come before the Council of Ministers and when this meeting is likely to take place?

I cannot be certain of that at the moment because I am not even certain that the meeting on Monday and Tuesday of this coming week will take place. There is a request from the UK for a postponement which I have opposed personally.
