Vol. 270 No. 14

Personal Explanations by Members.

I wish to apologise to the Chair for some remarks which were passed and in which I was involved yesterday evening. I also wish to refute categorically suggestions made against me. One has only to know customs regulations to know that there is no duty on meat in small quantities and, therefore, it cannot be smuggled. If it is brought across the Border in large quantities a permit can be obtained. I hope the Deputy will accept this explanation and withdraw the suggestion.

I also apologise to the Chair for my behaviour yesterday and I certainly withdraw any allegations I made against Deputy Harte. They were made in the heat of the moment and I hope they did not cause him any injury.

The apologies and explanations of both Deputies are accepted.

What about Deputy Coughlan?
