asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the German cement industry has tripled production while causing only a tenth of the previous degree of pollution; and if he will ensure that similar methods of production will be adopted here.

My information is that the permissible emission standards under German controls are higher than the best levels achieved here. Cement factories in this country are subject to control under the Alkali Act, 1906 and their emission levels are kept under continuing review in the light of the requirements of that Act.
