Vol. 271 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sign Lighting.

143.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will consider lifting restrictions on the lighting of neon signs.

The operation of the Electricity (Restriction of Consumption) (Amendment) Order, 1973, which prohibits the use of electricity for neon signs is being kept under review in the light of the general oil supply situation and the operation of the electricity generating stations. As soon as I am satisfied that circumstances warrant it the terms of the order will be relaxed.

Is the Minister satisfied that the regulations are being observed?

I would not wish to comment on that nor would I wish it to be taken that my failure to comment on it is a suggestion that the regulations are not being observed.

I know the Minister is at a disadvantage but it must be apparent to him as it is to other Dublin Deputies that the regulations are not being observed properly.
