Vol. 271 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fitting of Suppressors by CIE.

34.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why diesel engines and other apparatus used by CIE have no suppressors fitted as they should have in accordance with the Wireless Telegraphy (Control of Interference from Ignition Apparatus) Regulations, 1963, and the Wireless Telegraphy (Control of Interference from Electric Motors) Regulations, 1963.

I understand that diesel engines used by CIE do not contain ignition apparatus as defined in the Wireless Telegraphy (Control of Interference from Ignition Apparatus) Regulations, 1963 and the regulations do not therefore apply to them. As regards other apparatus used by CIE, I have no evidence that they do not comply with the regulations mentioned by the Deputy.

Have complaints been received by the Department or by RTE in regard to such interference?

I am not aware of any complaints having been received but if the Deputy will keep in touch with me I will consider any suggestions he has to make.
