Vol. 271 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aerosols and Cosmetic Products.

63.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the Government's position regarding the EEC draft directives on aerosols and cosmetic products.

So far as the general position in regard to EEC directives is concerned, I would refer the Deputy to what I said in reply to a previous question on 26th June, 1973, about the directives on cosmetic products and aerosols.

The draft directives on aerosols and cosmetic products are still under examination by the member states. These directives have certain implications for Irish industry, and the Irish point of view is being put forward in the course of the present examination.

In other words, no practical progress has been made in the last six to nine months?

I think it fair to say to the Deputy that we are all, on both sides of the House, accumulating more experience of the rate of movement of the Community now. On the face of it there is no progress but, somewhere underground, streams are moving and will emerge in due course.
