Vol. 271 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Security Co-ordinator.

87.

asked the Minister for Justice if it is his intention to appoint a co-ordinator of security; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The answer to both parts of the question is "No".

What did the Minister say?

I said:

The answer to both parts of the question is "No".

Did the Minister say that the answer to the question is "No"?

I said it twice.

Would the Minister not agree that there is a need for a co-ordinator of security in view of the failure of the Government in this field and in view of the recent fiasco conducted, with due public relations, by his colleague, the Minister for Defence?

There has been no failure on the part of the Government in the area of security. When the Coalition came to power they faced a difficult security situation—a mess that had resulted from years of neglect and ambivalence on the part of our predecessors. This mess has been cleaned up thoroughly and competently.

The Minister is mocking the House.
