Vol. 271 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mallow Hospital.

93.

asked the Minister for Health when he will make a statement regarding the future of Mallow County Hospital, County Cork.

The consultative process which I initiated some time back has now been completed and I am at present considering the recommendations of the health administrative bodies with a view to formulating a policy regarding future hospital developments. I am considering the position of Mallow County Hospital within the context of this overall review and cannot, at this time, indicate when a statement will be made.

Will this be within the next three months?

I cannot say.

I do not wish to tie the Parliamentary Secretary to a date but perhaps he could give us some idea of when we may expect a statement because there is considerable anxiety in the area in regard to this matter.

I think the Deputy will appreciate that at this point in time I cannot say when a statement will be made.

We shall expect a statement by mid-June.

Is the Deputy expecting another by-election in the area?

The result of the last one was very favourable.
