Vol. 272 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Car Parking.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make an early decision on the disc system for car parking as recommended by Cork Corporation.

The introduction of control of parking by means of parking discs is dependent on the making, under section 90 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961, of appropriate bye-laws by the Garda Commissioner. My consent is required to such bye-laws and may not be given for a period of one month, to allow for the consideration of representations, in accordance with the relevant statutory provisions. It has already been indicated to the commissioner and to the Cork Corporation that, without prejudice to consideration of any such representations, there is no objection in principle to the making of the bye-laws.

I understand that the drafting of the bye-laws is being finalised as a matter of urgency.
