Vol. 272 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - St. Ciaran's Special School, Dublin.

34.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the proposed new St. Ciaran's school, Glasnevin, Dublin.

Mr. R. Burke

The negotiations between my Department and the parties involved in the ownership of the proposed site for the new St. Ciaran's Special School, to which I referred in my reply to a similar question on 12th December, last, have not been concluded.

In the meantime however, and as a temporary arrangement my Department have sanctioned the erection of an additional prefabricated classroom on the site of the present school subject to the condition that certain steps be taken to eliminate fire hazards in the existing accommodation as well as to the additional room.

My Department are pressing the other parties concerned for an early resolution of the difficulties in connection with the new site and as soon as the site becomes available the further arrangements for the new school will receive special attention.

May we take it that the Minister will continue to use his good offices with all those concerned so that we will have the permanent school required in north city areas?

Mr. R. Burke

I can give the Deputy that assurance.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
