Vol. 273 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Loans for Secondhand Houses.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government if any building society is making loans available for secondhand houses; or if such loans are being provided from any source.

It is a condition of the interest subsidy payable to building societies that the value of loans approved by them for previously occupied houses may not exceed onethird of the total value of all loans approved. Subject to this limitation I understand that most of the major societies are accepting loan applications for such houses. Loans for previously occupied houses are also advanced by local authorities in certain circumstances and by assurance companies.

Question No. 24 postponed.
