Vol. 273 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Road Construction.

29.

(Dublin Central) asked the Minister for Local Government if the proposed new road through the Coombe, Dublin, will in any way affect the Holy Faith convent and schools.

30.

(Dublin Central) asked the Minister for Local Government the number of families that will be displaced by the new roads proposed by Dublin Corporation for the area of Dublin city known as the Liberties.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 29 and 30 together.

I have not yet been furnished with Dublin Corporation's roads proposals for the Liberties area, including the Coombe, and accordingly I am not in a position to furnish the information requested.

(Dublin Central): Is the Minister aware that the new proposals by Dublin Corporation will eliminate a considerable number of houses in this part of the city? There is grave concern among the people there as to the future pattern of the roads in that area.

As I said, I have not been furnished with the corporation's proposals. In any case, what the Deputy is talking about is an inspector's report which must come before the corporation — I assume it will be the corporation rather than the commissioners — and, until the corporation have reviewed the matter, it will not be presented to me.

(Dublin Central): Will the Minister ensure that people's houses in the Liberties will be protected?

I would not like to give an assurance on the hypothetical question Deputy Fitzpatrick is asking and I think he will admit it would be unfair of me to comment at this stage.
