Vol. 273 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Estate.

26.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission intend to acquire the Palmer estate, Bushy Park, County Galway, for division among local small farmers.

(Cavan): The Land Commission have no proceedings for the acquisition of the property referred to. I am informed that the lands in question would not appear to be suitable for Land Commission purposes owing to their close proximity to the Galway Borough boundary.

I am however arranging to have the matter brought to the attention of the commission.

Is the Minister aware that these lands have been offered for sale and that the small farmers in the area are anxious that the Land Commission take an interest in them? Would the Minister communicate to me later the decision of the Land Commission?

(Cavan): I am asking the Land Commission to have another look at the matter and I will communicate with the Deputy. My advice at the moment is that it would not be an economic proposition.
