Vol. 273 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Schemes.

27.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the Bridgetown group water scheme, Castletownroche, County Cork.

This 16-house scheme has been completed and all the grants allocated have been paid. The question of a special contribution by the Cork County Council towards the cost of increased pipe sizes used in the scheme is being examined by the council at the request of my Department.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position concerning the Knockane water extension, Castlemartyr, County Cork; and when it will be carried out.

This group water supply scheme will extend the Castlemartyr public water supply to serve houses in Knockane, when Cork County Council have constructed a high level reservoir to augment the public supply. I understand that the county council do not expect to complete the reservoir until later this year or early in 1975. The group scheme is designed, but further progress is not possible until the reservoir is completed.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he received tender proposals in respect of a water augmentation scheme for Buncrana, County Donegal; and when the tender for the scheme will be sanctioned.

Tender proposals for this scheme were received in my Department on the 9th May. I hope to be in a position very shortly to convey my decision on these proposals to the local authority.

Contract documents for the scheme were approved on the 6th October, 1967. I do not know what happened in the meantime but proposals for an advanced section costing about £4,000 to provide adequate supplies to the town until such time as the main scheme would come into operation were approved on the 4th July, 1973. On the 9th May, 1974 Buncrana UDC's proposals for the acceptance of tenders for the scheme were received in the Department. I hope to issue approval for the scheme next week.
