Vol. 273 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Measles Immunisation.

4.

asked the Minister for Health if his Department have any proposals for a national measles immunisation programme.

I have been considering a national measles vaccination programme but have not yet taken a final decision on it. The incidence of measles last year was relatively light and, while this may be a transient phenomenon, I would like to see some more up-to-date figures on this year's experience before deciding on a programme of vaccination. There are also some practical issues involved in the organisation of a measles vaccination programme because of the relatively high incidence of complications from vaccination against this disease as against immunisation for some other diseases.
