Vol. 273 No. 13

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Project Applications.

17.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if, in view of the fact that his Department intend to have the backlog of land project applications completed by September, he will give special exemption and an extension to people whose applications are deferred pending the completion of the Boyne drainage scheme by the Office of Public Works.

As I indicated in reply to a similar question from the Deputy on the 14th February, 1974, those farmers whose applications have been deferred pending the provision of suitable drainage outlets under the Boyne scheme will remain eligible for assistance under the terms of the land project scheme or the farm modernisation scheme, as appropriate.

I think there has been an instruction in the Department to try to clear up old cases. That is why I put down the question. It will be quite a few years before work on the Boyne is finished and a number of cases will be held up pending completion of that work.

I think the assurances given are reasonably satisfactory.
