Vol. 273 No. 13

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Directory Entries.

29.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if Members of the Oireachtas who wish to have their names in the telephone directory can also have them shown on the green pages in the front of the directory.

The green pages are reserved for explanatory material, advice for telephone users and general information about departmental services. The inclusion of the names of subscribers in this part of the directory is not proposed.

How many Members of the Oireachtas are ex-directory?

I can give the Deputy that information. About 10 per cent of Members of the Oireachtas have so requested.

Would the Minister be agreeable to allow the names to be printed en bloc to facilitate people? Few members of the public realise that Members of this House are listed in the telephone directory. I would like to focus attention on this.

I will give consideration to any suggestions which do not include putting them in the green pages. If a sufficient number of Members were interested in having their names and telephone numbers shown in the body of the alphabetical directory under a comprehensive heading such as "State Services" we could do that.
