Vol. 274 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Intervention Beef Sales.

11.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will make a statement on the quantities of intervention beef sold to individuals or institutions in this country to date.

There have been no such sales so far.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say when it is likely that details of this scheme will be ready and when it will be implemented?

I am sure the Deputy is aware how some of the beef in question is supposed to be disposed of. All the relevant information on this question is freely available in the Department not only to Members of the House but to any member of the public who is interested enough to inquire. As well as that, Press releases are made available for the general public also.

So a scheme has been introduced?

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that when a parliamentary question is asked in this House one usually expects the courtesy of a reply containing the information which is sought? He ought to be ashamed of himself.

Will the operation of this scheme interfere in any way with persons who have contracted to supply meat to such institutions? Will it interfere with the livelihood of butchers and other people who are supplying meat to various institutions?

The Deputy is broadening the subject matter of this question.

That would be a separate question.

No answer. Disaster.

Surely if it is a contract——

(Interruptions.)
