Vol. 275 No. 6

Written Answers. - Free TV Licence Scheme.

354.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will sympathetically consider the extension of the current free TV licence scheme to persons above the eligible age who are in receipt of limited State pensions only.

An extension of the scope of this scheme is not at present contemplated. It is pointed out however that persons over pension age who are in receipt of a limited State pension may already be eligible for free television licence provided they are in receipt of a social welfare type pension. For example, as a result of the relaxation of the means test over the past 18 months a married person with a State pension of less than £23 a week, and no other means, would qualify for a partial old age pension and be eligible for a free television licence.
